When it’s not appropriate to dress like I’m fighting an interstellar battle in the space marines on the ice planet, Hoth, in the year 2525 (which is most days, unfortunately), I take my influences from cowboys, pirates, hippies, cossacks, bikers, glamrockers, greasers and soldiers.

A clothes-hoarding, hard-rocking, borderline nudist and workaholic. Tends to turn to dirty-haired stick figures with smoking problems and smudged mascara for style inspiration (Erin Wasson, MK, Kate Moss,…). Loves wearing black, boots, piled-on bracelets; hates wearing glasses, bras, nail polish. Always? Roots. Never? Pants. Pro-caffeine; anti-flats on the runway. Cheap date; expensive taste. Currently coveting the Louis Vuitton Stephen Sprouse Graffiti Speedy in pink.

There have been more than a few days on which I have mentally mathed (yes, I made math a verb) the price I paid for all of the clothes and accessories I was wearing and realized that my whole ensemble had cost less than a Value Meal at McDonald’s. I live for sales; even at thrift stores, I head for the clearance rack. I don’t like wearing what other people have on, but I love being able to name where they bought their clothes (“That dude’s graphic tee? Totally from Express. Go ask him.”). I love cherry slushies, David Sedaris novels, sparkling wine, dance parties and vintage shopping for days on end. My style can range from menswear to uber-feminine in one day. What can I say? Sometimes a girl just wants it all.

I believe that one’s personal style is an extension of who you are and my writing is an extension of not only who I am but how I live. I may be from the Midwest but I have always been passionate about different people, cultures and the way people live their lives including how they dress. I hope reading this blog not only inspires you to look your best but see the world in a new way.

To describe my style I can go with the ever so cliché but undeniably useful Sex and the City reference: I’d like to think of myself as a cross between Samantha and Charlotte. Some call it a split-personality; I call it living with variety. Although, the split-personality comment would explain why you can catch me all dolled up in a dress and heels while listening to ESPN radio (my radio dial is permanently set on 101, and I feel incomplete if I miss a day of my sport talk radio).
If you want a quick way into my heart bring me a Cupcakery confetti cupcake, but if you want to stay there take me to a Cardinals game, preferably when Wainwright (my husband) is pitching.

Voted least likely to wear pants and most likely to pair a plaid shirt with Louboutin heels. I have a thing for Bob Dylan, The Who, baseball and dive bars. I like to bask in my guilty pleasures, my victories and my faults and my style, which I can’t define, and I’m not going to apologize for.
