Wasn’t it only couple of years ago that Alexis Bittar was just a promising, New York-based accessories designer? Now, in the realm of art deco-inspired, semi-precious jewelry, he’s number one. Right behind him is a new generation of jewelry designers who are creative, innovative, tech-savvy and determined to astonish the hard-to-surprise fashion world. I love Bittar`s new Resort 2012 lookbook–which is made up of kooky, art-worthy compilations of surreal photo collages and outrageous jewelry. Every image was reportedly inspired by the 1946 movie “Gilda” starring Rita Hayworth; memories of Danceteria–Bittar`s favorite club in the ’80s, where he “spent three nights a week as a hooligan” and “abstract visions of the Italian director, Federico Fellini”. The image of the mannequin-girl in a sunny-side-up-look headpiece will surely make it to my wall–next to images of Tilda Swinton by Tim Walker for W, and selects from the “Defragmention of Beauty” editorial by Marcin Tyszka for 25 Magazine. -Dasha B.
