Shoe of the Day: Tea Petrovic’s Experimental Collection

Inspired by architects and sculptors, this collection of prototypes by Bosnian design student Tea Petrovic is out of this world–with sheer desirability, all practicality aside. Each pair’s design is kept pure, in white and naturally silver metals. There are two series of shoes–one inspired by Naum Gabo, a Russian sculptor; the other, by Santiago Calatrava, a Spanish architect. The Gabo series relies heavily on elements of transparent levity and complex forms. The Calatrava series is more of a geometric and weighty architecture, with triangular forms and curvatures that dominate the shoes. While I might question the comfort level of these particular shoes, I can definitely applaud how far Petrovic took her shoe designs from the norms we see in supposedly cutting-edge runway collections. -April Whitlow
