Look of the Day: All-American Mori Girl
Monday, June 14th, 2010
While a number of looks in recent editorials featured in high-fashion glossies have mirrored, but not referenced, the style of the Japanese mori girl, we have questioned whether the models were purposely outfitted to look like “girls who came from the forest” or if the similarities were merely coincidences, as—first formed in 2007—the subculture’s definitive looks (included in the mori girl “dress code” are lace, retro prints, earth tones and smock-like styles) are undoubtedly on-trend this season.
Inspired by the transcendent beauty of Mother Model Management new face AJ Strutman; gauzy muslin, whimsical lighting and a wardrobe best described as flowy, natural and extremely feminine captures the fragile allure of the mori girl aesthetic.
