Fashion: On Trend
CHAIN, CHAIN, CHAIN
Thursday, March 18th, 2010
I’m a sucker for hardware; I’m all about anything with studs, grommets, chains or spikes—which is probably why I get so excited (and volunteer!) any time it’s necessary for someone to run an errand to Home Depot during a photo shoot (which happens more often than one might think). If I could make my wardrobe out of Home Depot supplies, I probably would. And, next time I go, I’m making Gareth Pugh my shopping inspiration.
Pugh’s FW10 collection included an interesting accessory: chain nails. Seriously. Thin strands of what looked to be necklace chains dripped from models’ fingers in various lengths, adding to the space-age-punk feel of the entire collection.
Manicurist Marian Newman, who created this look, said, “I have long been fascinated with metal chains imitating the movement and feel of fabric. To complement the draped chains of some of the pieces in the collection, miniature versions of the chains were applied to the chevron nails as an accessory. Long, swaying, swirling chains were used on some nails, and others had a shorter ‘day version.’”
Not ready to take this style to the streets? Newman also created less-daring look using a matte polish (another big trend for fall) to create a chevron design in shades of white and grey.
