VERSACE FW10 @ MILAN FASHION WEEK
Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Versace—a brand known for high-slit gowns, body-con daywear and glamour (thanks to Donatella herself; Gianni once referred to her as his muse)—is an inspiration to many designers, including me. Whether it’s Milan Fashion Week or a red carpet event, I am always excited to see the models, starlets and socialites wearing Versace.
For FW10, Donatella ventured into new territory, while remaining true to her brand; think futuristic elements (Tron-meets-Avatar) meshed with references from the past (as though the Versace glamazon hopped on her Ducati and time-traveled back to the 1970s). There were cropped, boot-cut, patchwork pants that merged denim with leather (I instantly thought of Charlies’ Angels-gone-bad); geometric, super-tailored coats and jackets (among the show’s highlights) and asymmetrical cuts, including sliced-up hems on several day dresses.
I had my show favorites; the the knit minis shown on Lais Ribeiro and Abbey Lee gave the show a breath of fresh air, while Jac in the white gown called to mind a more familiar Versace. Overall, a beautiful collection composed of pieces I hope to see on many a celebrity in months to come.
