Inspirational and message jewelry can be a little cheesy at times—or it can be spot-on. Everyone has an opinion on the style, and here’s mine. As human beings, we are fallible, emotional and sensitive; sometimes we need a pick-me-up. For some, that translates to a drink or a smoke. For others? A prayer or affirmations. For others still, that boost may come via a simple motto on a necklace. Personally, I am the former and the latter (jokes!). Seriously, though, shortly after my mother’s death, a very special someone gave me a necklace that read: simplify. He told me to put the necklace somewhere I could always see it, and—whenever I’m feeling stressed or as though I’m going to lose it—to look at the necklace, inhale deeply and take heed. For me, it has worked—but, like I always say, different strokes for different folks.

While visiting friend and fellow C40 writer Megan at her workplace (and one of my favorite local boutiques), I noticed Alisa Michelle message necklaces and immediately fell in love. Days later, the necklaces appeared on my favorite website, Gilt Groupe, and I took it as a sign; I NEED to get one of these necklaces! With messages including “don’t sweat the small stuff”, “grab the bull by the horns”, “live the life you love”, “slow down” and—my personal favorite—”live, laugh, love”, everyone is bound to find a style that speaks to them. Each necklace is made from a genuine coin, which is usually accompanied by a charm that coincides with the message—a saints medal accompanies a “protect me” statement, a bull is paired with the “grab the bull by the horns” coin, etc.

So, the next time you find yourself in need of a pick-me-up, look to inspirational jewelry by Alisa Michelle. A “constant reminder of what you need to focus on, remember or just hold close to your heart”, hell—it beats a bad hangover or a successories plaque, doesn’t it?
