Fashion: On The Runway

5 FAVE HAIR LOOKS FROM FW10

I truly love all aspects of show season; aside from the obvious—the clothes and shoes, of course—there’s the production, the model selection, the hair and the makeup. I love to see the new ideas, and always feel the excitement in the air whenever it’s time for the season’s first Fashion Week to roll around. I’ve already written about some of my favorite FW10 collections and have delivered the scoop on the top makeup trends, so it’s on to hair; these are a few of my favorite looks from the runway.

Dennis Basso showed a few sleek, classic chignons paired with a center part. This is definitely a style that’s easy to cop, and would work for a wedding, prom or cocktail event.

Like the collection, the hair at Christian Dior was dreamy, whimsical and theatrical. I loved the dramatic center part, paired with billowy, brushed-out, cropped curls and finished off with a messy, side fishtail braid; simply magnificent and utterly beautiful. Although this is definitely a favorite runway look, that’s where it should stay—for the most part; unless you’re an expert, don’t try this at home.

At Issey Miyake, the models wore sleek, almost wet-looking, side-parted updos; stylists created beautiful, flower-like swirls on the sides/tops of their heads. I LOVED this look! I thought it was interesting, innovative and—most importantly—wearable.

Sass & Bide’s was another clever take on an updo. Fresh and funky, I could totally see a Gwen Stefani- or Fergie-type working this asymmetrical, messy look. To me, it’s reminiscent of a classic ’40s pinup; I loved the addition of the metal hair accessory—very befitting of a modern-day Vargas girl.

Hands down, my very favorite hair look of FW10 was Roksanda Ilincic’s. I’m a sucker for big hair, and Roksanda Ilinncic had some of the biggest hair on the runways (we kind of have a thing for big hair at C40; as Autumn has previously stated, “The bigger the hair, the closer to God.”). I’m sure this crimped, frizzy, ’70s disco-inspired ‘do was even more mesmerizing when seen moving down the runway.
