TECHNICOLOR MAKEUP
Tuesday, March 16th, 2010
Designers and makeup artists decided to mix it up a bit for FW10. Among the biggest beauty trends of the season were bright—and I mean BRIGHT—technicolor hues for the face. Balenciaga showed brightly-colored eyebrows in pink, green and blue; Miu Miu went bold, showing oranges and purples both above and underneath the eyes and Derek Lam paired copper-and-blue eyes with a copper shimmer lip. Also dabbling in copper and orange shadow was Alexandre Herchcovitch, while Y-3 threw caution to the wind with MAJOR cat-eyed lids in purple, turquoise and green.
Donna Karan and Doo.Ri both made bold lip statements—showing the epitome of the perfect red lip and a deep plum lip covered in sparkles, respectively. Peter Som also chose a deep plum pout, while Nanette Lepore tried something new—two-toned lips. Meanwhile, Max Azria and Vena Cava shared a coincidental love for orange lipstick for fall.
Overall, the hot makeup looks for the upcoming season are daring, to say the least. That 20-shade eyeshadow compact you haven’t touched since you ran out of sandy-brown and charcoal-black? Now’s the time to whip it out.

So many women are afraid of color. Ready to wear fashion has been ever-evolving, but the neutral make-up that seems to be the standard (local) uniform is squarely stuck in the early 2000s. I hope the more color we see down the runway, the more it will appeal to the masses.
