We Are Stalking
Diagnosis: Stylorectic

She’s back. Eszter, the enigmatic blogger hailing from Vienna, Austria, is back from her blogging sabbatical with a vengeance, delivering ferocious-as-ever self-styled looks to her tremendous fashion blog, Stylorectic. Not afraid to push photographic (playing with natural and artificial lighting and incorporating random graphics into her photos is practically a site staple) and fashion boundaries, Stylorectic has become an inspiration–not just to her healthy band of readers, but to fashion bloggers far and wide. A self-proclaimed “lipstick tomboy”, she couldn’t have described herself better; juxtaposing ripped tights and metal details with babydoll lace dresses, she creates a look intoxicatingly-fresh and provocative. Between stellar photography and Eszter’s in-your-face attitude and quirky posts, Stylorectic is a cure-all for anyone bored with a less-than-inspiring blogroll.
Q: Stylorectic is an interesting blog name. Where did you get the name for your blog?
A: Oh, we were thinking about a name for an online shop we planned, which–of course–never happened. I thought it was a good name at the time; now I am not so convinced.
Q: How long has Stylorectic been around? What inspired you to start blogging?
A: It’s been around a bit over a year now. First, I wanted to test the whole picture posting thing for the upcoming shop, and then it simply grew on me. It happened without any plan, which is truly characteristic of me.
Q: Who are your fashion icons?
A: I love Dolls of Every Decade. I like the fab-but-crazy BB, Blondie, Riot Grrls and David Bowie. An icon has to stand the test of time for me, but I am always looking out for potential new kids on the block.
Q: How would you describe your style? How has your style evolved since starting Stylorectic?
A: Lipstick tomboy, maybe. It’s changed in a way, of course; time changes you naturally, but–on the other hand–it doesn’t. Maybe I own more heels now.
Q: Who takes the photos for your site? They are quite original. Where did you get the idea to have “moving lights” and other effects in your photos?
A: My boy takes them, bless his soul for his patience. We are amateurs with photography, and we just play around with the camera. We are happy like toddlers when we get new results.
Q: What is your biggest vice?
A: I have quite a few. Can’t nominate just one; the others would revolt.
Q: Tell me about Austrian style. How would you compare it to the American reputation of style?
A: Global style and trends are distributed much faster because the Internet and high-end street chains rule the world. That makes it harder to tell the styles apart, country-wise. I’ve been to NYC, and the blogs are often not representative of the whole country. But, in the end, I think there are more similarities than differences.
Q: What are you currently coveting?
A: Those yummy Burberry Prorsum Knotted Platform Sandals, with socks underneath. I would also like to have a few pieces from the upcoming Acne collection.
Q:Who is your favorite blogger?
A: I have approximately a dozen, which I check out regularly.
Q: What advice do you have for aspiring fashion bloggers?
A: Just have fun.
