Fashion: The Scoop
Obsessed with Alexa Chung
Thursday, February 11th, 2010
I have a major girl crush. These occur every once in a while, whenever I come across someone whose style makes me giddy as a schoolgirl–but it’s been awhile since I’ve fallen so hard. Jill’s girl crush is Erin Wasson. Mine? Alexa Chung. Recently emerging onto the US social scene, Alexa has been a British model-slash-social climber for years. However, it has taken me until recent months to realize how head-over-heels in love I am with her style. What’s not to love? She’s all about vintage-mixed-with-designer pieces in a perfectly-put-together look, no matter where she is headed. On the red carpet? Adorable. Her street style? Flawless. She is undoubtedly my style icon for 2010, and I can only see my crush intensifying.
And, apparently, I’m not the only one enamored; Mulberry’s Alexa bag was inspired by the uber-stylish star, and it is ah-maze-ing. Slouchy, casual, cute and available in an assortment of colors? I die. And, possibly elevating my obsession with her to unhealthy extremes, she has recently signed on to design a fall collection for the brand Madewell. Described as “downtown casual cool, tomboy-esque, vintage feeling”, I already know I’m going to love it. Tees for only $14 and jeans under $100? Yes, please.
Her show, “It’s On With Alexa Chung”, was canceled in December, but I don’t see her staying out of the limelight for long. And, really, as long as she’s attending events and flashing her personal style around town, I’ll be content. I’ve picked my top ten favorite Alexa Chung looks; and–believe me–it was hard to pick just just ten.
