GALLIANO’S MANY MEN OF FW10
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
Brilliance, uber-innovation and most importantly, one of the most talented story teller in the fashion industry. These words are just a teaspoon of words to describe John Galliano. Whether it’s ready-to-wear or haute couture, when he adds his magical touch to each collection; there’s no doubt that it turns into gold. I have always anticipated seeing his collections every season because he gives a true show from the backdrop and runway design to the craftsmanship and detail in every piece he sends down the runway. Most menswear collections don’t give the excitement that we all see bursting from the women shows, but with John Galliano he treats them all just the same.
Amazing would be quite the understatement as far as describing John Galliano’s FW10 collection. I would describe the show as phenomenal variations of the John Galliano man brought to life in this masterpiece of the Galliano world. His references went on like an endless river. At the start of the show, he introduced you to darker version of himself with his trade mark mustache and drop crotch pants. As the show went on he went from a suave yet naughty sherlock-esque gentleman to a martial art enthusiast whom indulges in voyeurism (hint: the model in the black shorts and red printed robe). Toward the end of the show, the back drop went from blue to red as we were all warped into Galliano’s asian civilians who wore suits in a new way and had super long ponytails that a couple had wrapped around their necks.
My favorites of the collection were the coats layered in pvc and the “Holmes” suits. I also loved the boots (my favorite choice of footwear). This collection has something for every man. Even if you’re not a fashion-savvy guy, I believe you will definitely get in touch with your inner fashionisto once you get a peak of this collection. And on another note for all you fashionistas, if you thought this was getting you a little hot and bothered waiting until you see the Galliano womens for FW10. I am more than sure it’s going to be something to see.
