WEEKEND WARRIOR – LUCETTE FW10

Taken from the Spanish word “luce” meaning “to shine,” Australian brand Lucette works to enhance the wardrobe with color and detail while maintaining a modern, relaxed style.

For FW10, design pair Angela Backshell and Tracy Miller drew were inspired by Joan of Arc. The Lucette woman of late is a modern warrior, going into battle every day and fighting for what she believes in; armor is referenced in the collection’s paneling, stitched-plate details and harnesses (and who doesn’t love a good harness?). It’s Joan of Arc-meets-Easy Rider-meets-Rock Romance… meets-Lover-ville/Needs-to-be-in-my-closet-ville.

I also noticed some definite dominatrix influence in the line’s leather pants, mesh bodysuit and laced-front pencil skirt. I’m pretty sure that, if the Joan of Arc mindset doesn’t help me conquer the world, the dominatrix influences will.

Another reason to love Lucette (besides the harnesses, shiny things and dominatrix vibe, of course) is the prominent sportswear element that marries the laid-back Aussie attitude with the designers’ adventurous, warrior inspiration.

And, lastly, can we talk about the Frontier Maiden band jacket? I mean, please; I just fashion-gasmed. Paired with the Easy Rider leather bikers, it’s my shy-band-geek-turned-bitchy-dominatrix fantasy come true. Now that’s one girl who is ready to roll out of bed, throw on an outfit and take (or whip!) the world by storm.
