I find beauty in the weird things in life. Especially when it comes to fashion. So when I found Alexander Koutny’s SS10 collection, I was instantly drawn in. This Johannesburg-born designer began his journey as a philosophy major who worked at a clothing production factory, which is where he found his love for fashion. He then returned to school to study design and later relocated to London. It was here that he started his own designs and began selling them to boutiques around the city. He is now on his third collection, and I see him only getting bigger and better from here.

His collections, with names like Monolithia (SS09), Diplaysia (AW09) and Kaskade (SS10), show that he is a designer with a definite vision. His latest collection, inspired by “arches and water finally ending their intolerance of one another” really grabbed my attention. And even though I had no idea that arches and water were rivals, his collection makes me a believer.
