Fashion: Cult Status

PINKIES UP – TIMO WEILAND

Everywhere you look it’s evident that throwback trends are in.  Last fall Marc Jacobs and DSquared2 channeled the 1980s. Last spring, Diane Von Furstenberg got in touch with her inner love child, using florals and silhouettes inspired by the 1970s. And as always, Christian Dior couture treats us with his modern take on 1940s-1950s classic beauty. But Timo Weiland throws it way back. I mean waaaay back. Their collection is inspired by Edwardian England meets 18th century France aesthetics.

Design duo Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein met while interning in the fashion industry and quickly bonded over their mutual interest in European history, travel and a flair for dapper. The pair started off designing neckties and eco-friendly wallets and recently expanded to men’s and women’s ready-to-wear.

Their SS10 collection is filled with pieces that would fit in perfectly at an aristocratic, dapper garden party. Probably with Earl Grey and lady finger sandwiches are involved. Maybe some croquet if it gets really crazy. It’s preppy and polished with an edge, a twenty-something’s take on propriety.

Womenswear jumpers have that “French intellectual schoolgirl with a secret sexpot side” vibe going on. And the suit jackets from the men’s collection fit in perfectly with the women’s line, giving you that “laidback cool, shop around in my boyfriend’s closet” type of look.

Timo Weiland’s collection of greens, blues, greys and crème wrapped around interesting collars and shapes reflects their personal aesthetic sensibilites and broader desire to spur a return to the art of dressing. Pinkies up!
