JEWELRY DE LA NOIR
Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Ever since I was a little boy, the noir genre has been appealing to me–from old movies like 1947’s “Dark Passage” starring Lauren Bacall to graphic novels of today, including Frank Miller’s “Sin City”. Noir is known for mystery, with just enough edge to keep you wanting more.
In keeping with tradition, “nOir Jewelry” has emerged. Designer and owner Leeora Catalan started the brand 14 years ago after school, followed by years at Ralph Lauren and Oscar De La Renta and–after that–working as a well-known stylist. Her off-the-wall style has always received positive attention from onlookers everywhere, and now–concentrating her creative juices on jewelry–celebrities and stylists across the world want a piece.
nOir Jewelry has been seen on Rihanna, who rocked the three-spike ring; Fergie, who strutted the red carpet in Catalan’s dangling spike-ball earrings; Alicia Keys, who wore the same ballsy earrings and Jennifer Lopez, who shut it down in her new video “Louboutins” wearing one of my favorite pieces–the Brooklyn Bridge brass knuckles ring. Recently, nOir teamed up with The Blonds on a dress for “It” girl Rihanna; it was a mini-dress version of nOir’s “Venus Deluxe” necklace (think gold-plated chain mail covered in cubic zirconia and tall spikes). Celeb-approved, and more than half of the collection is under $300? Too good!
The moral of the story is, if you want to tap into your edgier side, nOir Jewelry is the way to go; I am thrilled to see what the line has in store for the future.
