Fashion: Cult Status
CAMILLA SKOVGAARD
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
The Times UK called her as an “intelligent fashionista. Think Arne Jacobsen in couture.” I totally see it (and am bummed I didn’t come up with the comparison myself!). A fan of Jacobsen, it’s no wonder I like Danish designer’s Camilla Skovgaard’s aesthetic. Known for beautiful, sculptural and architectural designs, Skovgaard makes incredible, stylish shoes. Period.
What I love most is Skovgaard’s play on hard and soft, and how the cut of each of her shoes ensures that the foot is shown at its most beautiful angles. Some may “phhhsssst” at this, but it’s my belief (call me crazy) that how a woman’s foot looks in the shoe is just as important as how the shoe looks on its own. What’s the point of owning a beautiful shoe that looks horrible when worn? When it passes both tests, you know you’ve got a shoe rooted in quality craftsmanship and design. Skovgaard’s SS10 collection includes rubber-soled sandals, a clog and some killer chain-wrapped stilettos.
More Danish Modern for my collection? Yes, please! However, in this case, it will be a shoe design by Camilla Skovgaard instead of furniture by Jacobsen.
