Miguel Paolo Celestial: El Bosquejo
Friday, January 29th, 2010
While cruising the net last year, I stumbled upon El Bosquejo, a simple menswear blog. I was immediately captivated; rather than merely posting about great collections, Miguel Paolo Celestial integrates his own views on fashion by way of personal style pics and coverage of his own custom jewelry. Shopping at local flea markets, sharing his latest finds and creating jewelry from local hardware store finds, his blog is a fresh take on menswear.
Q: Tell me a little about your blog.
A: I started El Bosquejo about one-and-a-half years ago. It’s more like a personal style diary, enlarged as a magazine–covering all of my interests closely or remotely related to fashion. “Bosquejo” means “draft” or “sketch” in Spanish; I intended the blog to be about ideas.
Q: Why did you choose to cover men’s fashion?
A: Because that’s what I enjoy, and it’s a field that I feel is yet to be exhausted.
Q: What is your definition of style?
A: Style primarily has to do with sincerity. Someone looks good because he feels good about himself, he is confident in his own skin. He doesn’t have to be anybody but himself, and that shows.
Q: What do you think the top trends for summer 2010 will be?
A: My fearless forecast would include prints, moccasins, sheer neutrals, mesh/net, black embroidery as bling, all-white outfits, orange, sleeveless blazers and jackets, woven footwear and fedoras.
Q: When traveling, where do you shop?
A: I live in Manila. My favorite shopping places are in Causeway Bay and on Granville Road in Hong Kong.
Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: At one time, I wanted to be lawyer–but I think it changed every year growing up.
Q: If you owned your own boutique, what would the name be?
A: Bosquejo.
Q: What’s your favorite place to shop online?
A: eBay.
Q: If you had a choice of all the designers in the world, for whom would you prefer to work?
A: Dries Van Noten.
Q: What other blogs are you currently stalking and why?
A: Too many to mention, so I’ll list just a few: Kate Loves Me by Pelayo (for attitude), Style Bubble and A Shaded View on Fashion (for a range of coverage), Yvan Rodic (his newer blog, for capturing the spirit of each place he visits), The Selby (for a personal look into people’s lives) and, of course, the photographer trio The Sartorialist, Garance Dore and Jak & Jil (for my daily street style fix).
