Karen Blanchard: Where Did You Get That?

A London transplant living in the City, Karen Blanchard’s mix of UK tailoring and slick NYC style inspires and always keeps her audience guessing. Best described as an eclectic, put-together downtown bird with a shoe habit, her blog–Where Did You Get That?–not only features her great street style, but also contains some of the best photos in the blogosphere. An avid follower of her site, I know that she claims to have a girl crush on Zoe Kravitz, but–I have to admit–I think I have a girl crush on her.
Q: Why did you want to start a blog?
A: First it was to have an outlet to express my love of fashion and style. I was inspired by other bloggers I used to follow and one day thought, “I could do that.”
Q: Where in the UK are you from?
A: I was born and raised in London.
Q: Has living in NYC changed your UK style?
A: I will admit to becoming more sucked into the fashion vortex of some designer labels–but I only buy during sample sales or consignment, and mix in loads of low-end and thrift to keep my look more unique.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Good question, because I’m finding it increasingly hard to “label” my style. Downtown, rock, feminine?
Q: Who’s your favorite up-and-coming designer?
A: No one at the moment.
Q: What do you splurge on?
A: Shoes. My last purchase was a pair of cherry red Doc Martens.
Q: What is your daily uniform?
A: For winter, it’s a swing between floor-length dresses with Fryes, or leggings/skinnies with an oversized jumper [sweater]. A fedora or wool floppy hat to finish, and I’ll sometimes wear wood-heeled platforms with socks.
Q: What are you doing when you’re not fashion blogging?
A: Working my 9-to-5 administration job, which I so need to get out of and find something in fashion! Blogging is always on my mind, though. I walk around New York and am constantly inspired.
Q: Where are your favorite places to shop?
A: Thrift shops in the East Village and Brooklyn, and Tokio 7 is my favourite consignment shop. I also love checking out high street brands [like] Zara, H&M and Topshop.
Q: Who are you currently stalking?
A: I have girl crushes on Zoe Kravitz, Alexa Chung and Mary-Kate Olsen.
