Raych Nguyen: That’s Chic
Monday, January 4th, 2010
Known for her casual attitude and love of fashion, California blogger Raych Nguyen opened up to Corridor40 about launching her blog, That’s Chic, three years ago. Today, she is a favorite among the fashion blog scene and has high hopes for a future career in the fashion industry. Raych is definitely a woman who knows what she wants–and how to put a killer outfit together, Mickey Mouse ears and all.
Q: Why did you decide to start your blog?
A: I started That’s Chic three years ago. I started it for personal use, to post things I like. It wasn’t until a year or two ago that I decided to make it more personal with my outfits.
Q: What are some of your favorite blogs?
A: Sea of Shoes! I love Luxirare, the Glamourai and Fashion Toast. I think there are a lot of carbon copy blogs. You can tell when someone’s trying too hard; it’s obvious when they’re just trying to be popular.
Q: Tell me about your personal style.
A: I live in California, so I’m very casual. I like contrasting elements. I haven’t set my own style; I’m still experimenting. My style changes all the time. I feel that, in having a blog, people can see my progress.
Q: Who or what inspires your style?
A: Looking at other blogs has helped me to be more creative in how I dress. Bloggers do inspire me; it’s how they dress–not an editorial–that inspires me.
Q: Do you ever think about your audience when picking outfits to post on That’s Chic?
A: I don’t feel like I have to please anyone. What I put out there is how I dress.
Q: What’s your day job? As a college student do you dress the same way on campus as you do off campus?
A: I work as a receptionist at a real estate company; it’s a pretty easy job. As for school–right now, I go to Orange Coat College. I just applied to Cal State-Fullerton and University of California-Irvine. I don’t wear heels to class, but–other than that–the way I dress on my blog is how I dress for school.
Q: Who is That’s Chic’s photographer? How do you choose the location of each shoot?
A: My boyfriend, James, is the photographer. I drive around until I find a place. We’ll find a secluded spot and shoot. I’ve found I have an eye for it, after doing it for so long.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: I’ll be out of school. Hopefully, I’ll find a cool job as a buyer. I never planned on majoring in fashion, but I would like to mesh the two. I also plan on being married in 10 years.
Q: Where do you see That’s Chic in 5 years?
A: I don’t know if I will still be blogging in 5 years. I don’t feel like commercializing it. It’s really a personal blog for me.
Q: What accessories are you currently wanting to add to your wardrobe?
A: Patent beige Alaias and cat-eyed Chloe sunglasses!
Q: What’s fashion advice do you have for aspiring fashionistas?
A: Stay true to what you like, your own style, and don’t get too caught up in what everyone else is wearing and thinking.
