PRINGLE OF SCOTLAND FW10
Thursday, January 21st, 2010
Chunky sweaters, leather and male models? My ears just perked up! Oh, how I love Milan Men’s Fashion Week…
Fueled by muted shades of black and gray with pops of tan, Pringle of Scotland’s FW10 collection did not disappoint. Staying true to the its Scottish heritage, the brand’s collection featured a few kilts–non-traditional, but kilts none-the-less. Designer Clare Waight Keller modernized the look by pairing the kilts over pants–probably thinking that non-Scot men would be more apt to wear a “skirt” over pants than by itself. Other traditional Scottish wears came into play as well–cable-knit sweaters (the almost-200-year-old line is so famous for its “knitwear”, they coined the term in 1905), tweeds and argyles sure to keep one warm in the Highlands–or on the subway platform, wherever one may be.
The trousers were slim cut, but not too skinny (just the way I like them!), and some contained down-the-front pintucks for a more formal look. For the most part, the pants were either tweed, wool or what looked to be sharkskin. Paralleling womenswear trends, Pringle also showed a few pairs of sweatpants on the runway, which were teamed with jackets or sweaters to dress-up their casual counterparts. The structured jackets were impeccably tailored, with contrasting lapels that I absolutely loved.
Overall, “right on time” is the term I’d used to best describe the latest Pringle of Scotland collection.
