MILAN MEN’S FASHION WEEK: VERSACE FW10
Monday, January 25th, 2010
The time of year where high fashion and testosterone becomes one is upon us..also known as men’s fashion week. As fashion goes forward, menswear has gone from the basic necessities of a man’s wardrobe to today–where men are given the opportunity to experiment. One of the best things about fashion is how we as people are given the creative freedom to express who we are through our wardrobe and now to me is the best time for men to do just that.
Versace is one of my favorite brands and whether it’s women or menswear I am always anticipating the clothes that strut before me as I watch the latest show. The spectacular thing about Versace is that no matter what season or theme, Donatella always brings everything back to looking rich with a luxury yet youthful edge. FW10 was a very special yet ironic collection because just a few months ago I was online window shopping and was thinking I would love to make an outfit reference by the sci-fi classic movie “Tron“. Let’s just say my prayers were definitely answered. Watching the show, you see the black backdrop with a sky blue pipe lighting from floor to ceiling and as the music starts Versace biker-bots come marching down the runway. Donatella’s execution of the structured straight legs was remarkable with the cut resembling a robot’s leg. I also loved how she played with the different textures of latex and leather (Latex biker pants, here I come). The suits were very today with a new spin on the shawl collar blazer. I was a big fan of the Versace knits whether it was sleeveless or a full long sleeve, and I could definitely see them all going into my closet. When watching this collection, I was so inspired with how Donatella worked with her prints being that this is men’s fall. The print was motorcycle skid markings done in vibrant colors of turquoise, red and orange (creativity at its best). My favorite pieces wear the outerwear from the body conscious motorcycle jackets to the leather studded trench coats.
I see this collection as a big trendsetter for FW10. My prediction is that men will definitely be trying to find their inner “Tron” for fall (I know I will). My advice to all the fellas is to tap into your rainy day savings and make at least one big splurge for FW10 and if you’re like me you will be going straight to Versace for just that.
