Fashion: From The Corridor
Margarita Saplala

When I see certain collections, it always makes me want to transform my style completely and start anew with their looks. This is what happened when I found Margarita Saplala. Earthy and boho, with an urban twist, this collection makes me want to frolic in the fields and then return to the city looking street-style chic. Is this making any sense? Let me explain.
Margarita Saplala, a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago, started her line in 2004. What started as her twist on the basic t-shirt, has expanded to this silk-infused line of dresses, pants, tops and skirts. But what really drew me to Margarita Saplala was the fact that each piece looked like it could be thrown on and easily worn out without any fuss. Casual flowy dresses, which are a staple in my summer wardrobe, are everywhere in her Resort 2009 collection. Her FW09 collection, however, made me a true believer–with everything from maxi boho dresses to cap sleeved mini dresses. Now her Resort collection brings a more beachy feel to her looks with florals and ocean colors.
Clearly, Margarita Saplala is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world. Although she has been around since 2004, it seems like she is really taking off with these two latest collections. With her items running around $300 a piece, I’ll have to wait for a special occasion to indulge, but that doesn’t mean I can’t wait to see what she has in store for SS10. Whatever it is, I’m sure I’ll love it.
