THE GOSSIP ON LORICK
Friday, January 8th, 2010
There is a little show called “Gossip Girl” I’ve been hearing about for the past couple of years. Although I’ve never watched a single episode, I’m familiar with the story line, the actors and–of course–the wardrobe. I recently came across the fabulous line, Lorick. Upon further investigation, I found out that model-turned-Lorick-designer Abigail Lorick is also the designer for the Waldorf Collection on “Gossip Girl”. Interesting..
Abigail’s “real”, Lorick line is unbelievable! I absolutely LOVE the SS10 collection. The collection has a very retro feel to it–kind of an updated take on 1940s fashions. The lady-like collection is filled with beautiful dresses, skirts and blouses. It is so feminine and elegant, I immediately thought of burlesque queen Dita Von Teese–then fellow Corridor40 writer, Autumn. Autumn would undoubtedly light up with glee at first sight of the line’s many pantsless and boudoir-inspired pieces; they are right up her alley.
My favorite piece is, hands-down, the long, jersey backless dress. When I say long, I mean long–floor-length; it is amazing. I am also a fan of the super-long, printed skirt. I love the plays on volume and proportion, the mix of neutrals with pops of color. Lorick’s aim for her line? “To bring back the modern lady, respect and manners for women.” Mission accomplished.
