Music Go Music

Dripping wet with a raunchy vestige of ’70s glamor, Music Go Music captures the essence of an era that rarely failed to shine. Hints of ABBA and early-Blondie influences are apparent on many tracks by the L.A. natives on their first LP, titled “Expressions”.
Typically playing under the band name Bodies of Water, Music Go Music serves as an alias to the usually-grandiose indie band, allowing the bandmates to fully expunge the disco, pop and retro tendencies that might otherwise mess with their reputation, however unimpressive.
An eerie organ serves as an alluring intro to “Warm In the Shadows”, topped by Merideth Metcalf’s endearing harmonies and a bumping, two-note bassline that almost single-handedly carries listeners through the 9-minute epic–stopping only for a short guitar-solo bridge.
The greatness of the arrangements in “Warm In The Shadows” stands out during the guitar solo; a twinkling synthesizer accompanied by the occasional shake of a tambourine and tap of a woodblock back the solo’s few notes. It’s indicative of Metcalf’s work throughout the verse of the track; a small lift or drop of her voice defines the song’s melody as she tells the tale of broken-heartedness.
Considering Music Go Music has so many people on stage in its “Warm In The Shadows” music video, it’s interesting to note the lack of complexity at any given point in the song. But, who gives a fuck; their tracks groove—hard—and, ultimately, that’s really what matters.
Need another dose of disco? Check out another great Music Go Music track titled “Just Me.”

I like any article that begins with “dripping wet…”
From now on, I’m beginning every review with a shower scene.
