Fashion: The Scoop

Santi Baby

The Corridor40 crew recently attended Nelly’s 4th annual Black and White Ball. One would think a group of fashion writers and self-proclaimed shopaholics would have a plethora of dresses, evening bags and shoes from which to choose–that wasn’t the case; each of us scrounged, shopped and worried about what to wear. I ended up in a beaded vintage shirtdress paired with strappy silver sandals. If there was one problem I had with my outfit, it was my handbag. Not that my bag was awful (a simple, pewter leather wristlet), it just didn’t feel appropriately special. However, I had nothing else in my closet and no time or money to spend.

Of course, the next day, while browsing one of the many online shopping clubs to which I belong, I came across the Santi collection. Wow! Composed  strictly of handbags, mostly small clutches, the line is beautiful! It is also affordable, which–to me–is shocking. Embellished, beaded, sequined, embroidered and covered in feathers, each Santi handbag is definitely special. Handmade in India by craftspeople well-educated in the skill of silk-working, the line was founded in the late ’80s by Santi Tiangratanaku. The fact that I’m just now discovering them? No excuse.
