Fashion: On The Runway
Exuberance with Armani
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009
The necklines are plunging and the skirts are rising! For SS10, Giorgio Armani is bringing youth and exuberance to his typically-traditional-and-lady-like collections. While still turning out superbly-fitting, architectural garments, he is incorporating a bit more play this season. On the runway, we saw a flurry of one-shouldered cocktail pieces in graphic prints and bold colors; Armani focused on a palette of hot pinks and oranges, contrasted with deep yet bright blues, greens and purples. One common theme was a skirt with an unbelievably-high slit, accompanied with a fancy short; a trend incorporated by many designers for SS10, peekaboo shorts under dresses and skirts replace legging layers of seasons past. Finally, Armani has remained mindful of the city girl about town, with flat shoes that added a bit of function to the collection’s frivolity.
I like how Armani debuted such an optimistic and bright spring collection, despite the harsh economic times. We can see this as a lesson for own fashion choices; when the weather is dreary this winter or times are rough, putting on a bold color or print can help keep your spirits high–and, hopefully, the happiness will be contagious!
