Maryam Nassir Zadah, Perfect Cents
Friday, December 11th, 2009
It’s a clothing store! It’s a fashion craft house! It’s an art gallery! New York’s Maryam Nassir Zadah (MNZ) represents what art lovers get so excited about; art somehow seems to weave its way into everything!
A somewhat ambiguous establishment, MNZ may leave you wondering what exactly to call it. But, once you’ve learned more about the dynamic duo who put it together, MNZ makes perfect sense. The owners are Maryam, an RISD- and Parsons-trained designer, and her fiance, Udar Kak, an art director. With MNZ, the couple struck the perfect balance between a welcoming art gallery, a “touchable art” studio and a chic boutique featuring their original designs, lovingly crafted by hand.
“We wanted to express our artistic aesthetics in a very personal way,” says Maryam. “It’s not about the labels, but about the mix of unusual, beautiful things coming together.” If you get a chance to visit the store, you’ll find a friendly staff always ready and willing to answer your questions.
