Marylyn’s Holiday Gift Guide

When asked to write my 2009 Holiday Gift Guide, the first thing that popped into my head was Eartha Kitt’s rendition of  “Santa Baby.” What girl doesn’t want a Christmas tree with decorations bought at Tiffany’s, or a deed to a platinum mine? But, in keeping in mind the current economic status (and the status of my personal bank account!), I have come up with a glamorous, wallet-conscious wish list for the Eartha Kitt inside every fashion lover.

1. Alexander Wang’s Black Lambskin Gold Studded Bag. I have been craving this all season. Versatile enough for a quick trip to Starbucks or a late night out on the town, take my advice; if you are going to make a mini-investment in any leather bag, it may as well be this bomb ass, studded bag.

2. David Yurman Petite Albion Topaz Ring. Admittedly, I have been asking for this ring since I first laid eyes on it two-and-a-half years ago. I love the signature Yurman twisted cable mixed with the more-youthful bright topaz stone. Just plop this ring into your daughter’s, girlfriend’s or best friend’s stocking and she will love you forever. Trust me.

3. Kate Spade Tickled Pink Candle. Kate Spade’s scented white floral candle looks as pretty and feminine as it smells. Definitely on the sweeter side of the scent spectrum, this candle will add a light, calming fragrance to any room.

4. Moleskine Notebook. Used by literary and artistic giants Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso, respectively, the pocketsized notebook from the Moleskine collection is perfect for jotting down class notes, future literary masterpieces or doodles. Available in various sizes and styles, check out the Moleskine website and pick your perfect paper.

the office

5. The (British) Office. I feel like a bit of cheater when I claim to be The Office’s number one fan, yet have never seen the original British version. The drier, and arguably funnier, original version is available on DVD and would make a great gift for any lover of the show. If you are late jumping on the bandwagon, asking for The Office on DVD would be a great way to start your addiction to The World’s Best Boss coffee mugs and diabolical office pranks.

american apparelamerican apparel

6. American Apparel Circle Scarf and Striped Long-Sleeve Bodysuit. American Apparel’s big, cotton Circle Scarf looks so cozy, I don’t know if I can wait until Christmas to wrap it around me the possible 10 (seriously!) different ways. And, as for the crème-and-black Striped Long-Sleeve Bodysuit? It just screams “sex.” If an American Apparel bodysuit is good enough for Megan Fox, then it’s good enough for me.

7. “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris. I can’t believe I haven’t read this yet–although this David Sedaris book may be a bit more appropriate for the holidays.
