DESIGNER HAIR ACCOUTREMENTS- KEEP BAD HAIR DAYS AT BAY THIS SPRING

Some days are just bad hair days. Or, for me, some days–make that many days–are dirty hair days. Now don’t get all grossed out on me; hear me out. I’ve written before about the evils of shampooing your hair on a daily basis. For those who aren’t in the know, daily shampoos are awful for the condition of your hair, as they cause frizz and dryness.  So, what’s a girl to do on a non-shampoo day when her hair isn’t looking all that fab? Thanks to many designers and their SS10 collections, we have some new ideas for turning any so-called bad hair day into a great fashion day.

Marni gave us the easiest solution: pull your hair back into a chignon or a ponytail, then grab your favorite silk scarf, wrap it around the front and secure it in the back. I’d suggest pulling a few strands or bangs (if you have them) out in order to soften the look. Add a pair of big shades and/or big earrings for an instant ode to Jackie O.

Those on the more adventurous or youthful side can go for the big bow look, seen at Marc by Marc Jacobs. Although the look is a little young and too Minnie Mouse for my taste, I can totally see someone with great style and confidence pulling it off. It’s easy: grab a big, thick ribbon, place the ribbon slightly off center, pretend your head is the top of a present, tie a bow and go!

Ribbons were also used as accessories on the Jason Wu runway; stylists created a voluminous chignon at the back center of the head, then a sheer black ribbon was woven throughout the hair. In some instances, a hat-like look was created toward the front of the head with the sculpted ribbon. Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy also incorporated a sheer, black, interwoven hair look, though theirs was completey different than the look at Wu. Their deconstructed ponytail/braid hybrid was covered in a mesh-like material, which completed the post-apocalyptic look they were going for; the hair had the same edginess as the clothes and tribal tattoos worn by the models.

So what if your hair isn’t camera-ready everyday? Next time your hair decides not to cooperate, take a cue from the runway and dress it up in the latest looks, approved by your fave designers.
