Natalie Off Duty: Natalie Suarez

Natalie Suarez is a rising star, both in the blog world and in the modeling scene. Her blog, Natalie Off Duty, gives us insight to this Los Angeles darling’s everyday street style. Not only can she take a great photo and put together a killer vintage-meets-So Cal casual look, but she also sings and plays the guitar–which she sometimes features on her site. Is there anything this girl can’t do? I’m a fan.
Q: How would you describe your personal style?
A: My style is a mix of everything. I wear a lot of vintage, with designer pieces thrown in–and a lot of great basics from chain stores like H&M and Zara. It’s a bit edgy. I never lean towards one look; I try to stay feminine, but with some toughness.
Q: Outside of the fashion world, what influences your style?
A: Music has influenced my style. I do sing and play, so–with that–I have developed a little edge and have created my own look. And I listen to all different types of music, from rock to folk to rap. Everything is appealing to me, so I guess that’s why I’ve never really had one way of dressing.
Q: How has modeling influenced your style?
A: For modeling, I do have to look my best and stand out from all the other girls going to the same castings–so that has pushed me to stay away from trends and wear clothes that are different and unique. I wear pieces that show my figure, but are still unique–so I wear a lot of vintage. As a result of modeling, I now own a lot more pairs of heels–and I am obsessed with black booties; I wear them almost everyday! I guess modeling has made me more confident in my own skin, and has helped me create a look that is my own.
Q: What has been your favorite modeling gig so far?
A: That’s hard to say, but I did really enjoy doing the Nina Ricci runway shows in LA and San Francisco a while ago. The clothes were absolutely beautiful, definitely one of my favorite collections. Meeting the designer Olivier [Theyskens] was also incredible; he is so sweet, and has the most amazing hair! I love doing print work, but the atmosphere at runway shows is just so fun.
Q: What are you currently coveting?
A: I am in love with anything Chloe at the moment; it’s so simple and classic. I am a lover of the Chloe Paratay bag, especially; it’s so gorgeous, I would love to carry it around every day!
Q: When you don’t have anything else to wear, what is your go-to outfit?
A: If I am in no mood to look through my drawers, I will usually just pull out a pair of fitted, high-waisted jeans and a vintage button-up blouse.
Q: What is the best fashion tip you’ve ever received?
A: Stick with one statement piece and keep the rest simple. Sometimes I will look in the mirror and be like, “This is way too much,” and I’ll either take a layer off or make everything but one piece look understated and neutral.
Q: What are you doing when you’re not fashion blogging?
A: When I’m not fashion blogging, I’m usually out and about casting and working. I also like to sing and play piano and guitar when I’m free. I try to find time for yoga and bike riding, as well.
Q: Who are your favorite emerging designers?
A: I love Alexander Wang; he is still sort of new, right? Well, he has gotten pretty established, but–overall–he’s still sort of new. What I love about him is his originality and how wearable all of his clothes are. Every single piece would look good on any young woman. He seems to have such a great eye for what kinds of clothes will make a young woman look and feel really cool and hip, without appearing over the top. I love his clothing!
Q: Who are you currently stalking?
A: I am currently stalking the style of Dree Hemingway. She has great classic style and is a natural beauty!
