Fashion: On Trend

GETTING LACEY

Okay, it is officially time for me to go on about another one of my obsessions: lace. Since I was a wee lass, I’ve had a thing for lace–but, then again, what little girl doesn’t? Some of my passion probably stems from my Irish heritage, as the Irish are some of the best and most famous lace makers.  I love the versatility of lace; it can be sophisticated and elegant, sexy and vampy or edgy and casual. I love the juxtaposition of lace and leather for that dainty, rocker feel. Basically, I think lace is pretty, feminine and cool.

I’m lucky, as it seems there will be a lot of lace available come spring; Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel and John Galliano were just a few who showed this trend on their SS10 runways. Dolce & Gabbana showed a lot of lace, which made up dresses, shorts, jackets and dresses. D & G reminded all of how sexy lace can be by showing it sheer and unlined, leaving very little to the imagination. At Chanel, we saw more classic takes on lace (of course), shown on jackets, skirts and dresses. John Galliano opened his show with my fave model, STL native Karlie Kloss, wearing a lace-covered jacket; the combination of Karlie and the outfit may have made me squeal just a little. At Galliano, lace was more of a supporting player than a main star, but–nonetheless–it made a huge impact. Most of the lacey looks at Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel were seen in white and black, however Galliano showed that the trend can be done in nudes and colors, too.
