Fashion: On Trend
Jumping for Jodhpurs
Monday, October 26th, 2009
I remember when jodhpurs were primarily worn only for horseback riding. So who would’ve thought it would become a hot FW09 trend? I love the idea of a woman strutting the streets in the real world in jodhpurs–it all screams fashion daredevil. With the fashion world becoming more and more fascinated with shapes, what better pant to become one of the stars of this season’s A-list trends? Although Jodhpurs were created for men in the late nineteenth century to be a part of their uniform during a game of polo, over the last century they have evolved into a fashion favorite that can now be worn by women all across the world.
For FW09, designers made the shapely pant a must-have among buyers, editors, stylists and even “It” girls that grace the silver screen. What I like most about seeing this trend is that each designer presented their version of the pant in different ways. While Alexander McQueen showed us a naughty equestrian version of jodhpurs, Marc Jacobs mixed casual with ’80s luxe¾pairing denim fitted jodhpurs with an edgy peplum. Can you say ’80s comeback? Shoulders, “Dynasty” hair and all. Even at Ralph Lauren, he took a more polished and classic approach on what the Ralph Lauren woman will be wearing for FW09. My advice to everyone is to go out, grab a pair and be the scene stealer you know you are.
