Fashion: On The Runway

LET’S GO GLAMPING

Glamping–the term that was used backstage at Dsquared2 for SS10. For those who don’t know, glamping is the abbreviated version of “glamorous camping”. Picturing glamazons in 5-inch heels, jorts and trucker hats? That’s exactly what the Caten twins gave us; and that’s exactly what we’d expect, if ever asked to “rough it” in the backwoods with the design duo.

In learning that Dan & Dean Caten covered half of their collection in plastic, I couldn’t help but think of the plastic-covered furniture currently in my grandparents’ home–but, in vieweing the uber-chic collection, the reference was soon forgotten. The clothes are great and–at least you know–if you ever drop something on yourself, it will just slip right off.

For me, a favorite within the collection were the denim pants that were dipped in a yellow latex paint at the bottom and that faded into original denim towards the top. Each girl was sent down the runway in a pair of geek-to-chic frames and either a fisherman’s hat or a trucker cap, each of which added to the camper-esque feel. As for evening wear, silk and chiffon dresses were kidnapped in plastic, which I think–quite honestly–made them look even more phenomenal. This collection was a much-needed bright spot, likely in response to the recession. Thank you, Dsquared2 boys, for having the ability to bring fun to every fashionista’s wardrobe.
