A Pristine Enviroment

There I was, happily listening to fellow artists discuss their work at the gallery chat about the exhibit,  “Material Studies” at Good Citizen. I was intrigued by all of the works, as well as the artists. However, Jessica May a young and enchanting artist, who spoke so eloquently that she made me want to jump into her mind…just to revel in the place where all her beautiful little creations come from.

May’s presentation consisted of hand-blown glass sculptures integrated with intricate weavings of real bird bones and expired bugs. The pristine environment within each individual sculpture was sweetly accented with a delicate gold leaf. May spray painted the back each piece, creating the illusion of depth and darkness, giving the sculpture a research laboratory spin.

As May spoke on her connections to nature and its incorporation into her work, I was inspired to consider the need for all of us to be aware of nature, which is constantly showing us its miracles. May’s work creates the bridge between the concrete environment of our businesses or homes and the heaven that we can find outside everyday.

As Jessica’s mother, I appreciated your article on her art. Not many actually “get” her work, but she is totally dedicated and I am so very proud of her.
