First Day On Set With Katie Miller

With her angelic eyes, never-ending legs and head-full of extentions (ouch!), dancer Katie Miller stepped onto set of ALIVE Magazine’s September editorial shoot and leapt into our hearts. I was on set to capture all of the excitement of her very first modeling gig.

Miller may be new to modeling, but she’s no stranger to the dance world; this 16-year-old Edwardsville native has been dancing since she was 10, and considers contemporary/lyrical to be her favorite style. Miller dances at Studio E in Edwardsville and is a member of Metro-East Lutheran High School’s dance team, making her a prime candidate to model the shoots’ dancewear-inspired fashions.

Q: Since this was your very first modeling gig, what were you expecting going into the shoot?

A: I was expecting lots of pictures. But, what I was not expecting was how cool the clothes were experimented with and chosen. And I didn’t realize how much models have to put up with people fooling with their hair and makeup, and making all the decisions for them. It’s crazy.

Q: What was your favorite outfit of the day?

A: There were parts that I liked about every outfit, but I would have to say the short green BCBG dress [Available at Dillards].

Q: What was the hardest part of the day for you?

A: Leaping around all day! I’m guessing that I did about 200 leaps.  I was extremely sore the next day, and the day after that! But I didn’t mind. As a dancer, I’m used to being sore; it was worth it.

Q: How would you describe your personal style?

A: My personal style is very simple and classic, but with lots of quirks. I love experimenting with colors and accessorizing with big earrings; they add a lot of character.

Q: Any tricks or tips that you learned on set?

A: To have patience, follow directions and have a good attitudebecause it helps everyone work together and get their jobs done.

ALIVE’s September issue is on newsstands now.
