Recessionista Goes To… Day to Night (Then Day Again)
Wednesday, August 26th, 2009
It’s a dilemma that we all face. It’s a busy day, and going to be a busy night—a recessionista needs to plan ahead and plan wisely. One of the greatest things about this fall is that separates will take precedence in your closet, making it easy to transition from outfit to outfit and get more wear out of your pieces.
Here is a solution for the busy recessionista on-the-go: For your day look, try some skinny pants, a pair of nice sandals (for inspiration, check out Moira’s article on acceptable flip-flop alternatives), a simple, low-cut V-Neck and a boyfriend blazer. Want to add a unique element? Try a quirky accessory, like a statement necklace or a fedora.
After work, it’s time to let loose. Trade in your skinnies for a bright, banded mini-skirt and pumps. Tuck your T-shirt into your skirt and lose the blazer, or—if you’re really adventurous—try wearing the blazer buttoned, sans T-shirt. Too much? You could always make like Rihanna and Lady Gaga and throw on some pasties.
But, sometimes the night doesn’t end there. We’ve all had those nights—you know which ones I’m talking about; the ones that take you into the wee hours of the morning. To take your night look back to day, grab your V-neck, then add opaque tights and a belt to cinch over the blazer and roll up the blazer’s sleeves. Then, pull your hair back into a low bun and grab your pocket-sized Febreeze and oversized sunglasses. No one will ever know…
This entire look? $131.30!
