For me, high school was a huge fashion show; nothing was more fascinating than seeing the different types strut the halls. There were the mean girls; the eclectic, artsy chicks; the drama queens; the snobs and, of course, the rebels. There’s one thing that all five of these cliques have in common; they’re the trends that conquered the FW09 runways.

The fashionistas at Bebe clearly referenced many of these trends when establishing the mannequin looks for their current storefronts. When I discussed the displays with the workers, they confirmed that this season’s Bebe girl is a rebellious, mean girl. Dressed in second-skin cigarette pants and a fur bolero vamped-up with black leather gloves and stiletto ankle booties, they‘ve succeeded in painting that picture; that’s a girl you don’t want to mess with.

This fall and winter, many designers played into the idea of the schoolgirl. While Luella Bartley revealed an uber-artsy scholar at Luella, Consuelo Castiglioni sent out a bookish rich girl covered in luxe plaids at Marni; think Alicia Silverstone as Cher in Clueless.

While FW09 showed ample schoolgirl styles that most every fashionista will want to add to her closet, play it smart and pick up the key pieces: box jackets with sexy, edgy cuts and romper dresses in such rich textures. Whatever style you sport, feel free to channel your inner schoolgirl all season; all you have to do is ask yourself, “Which girl am I?”
