Why We’re Gaga for Lady Gaga
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Both the fashion and music worlds are abuzz about Lady Gaga. Many people don’t get it. What is it about Lady Gaga that has us so fascinated? Here’s my opinion:
1. She shows up to a press conference wearing a mask to “show her love for contemporary art“*or to cover a hideous zit or hangover. Note to self: Use this method next time…
2. She slips into Alexander McQueen for a night on the town. ‘Nuff said.
3. She performs in a bra, complete with sparklers. Who doesn’t love sparklers?
4. Even self-proclaimed style icon Kanye West knows he cannot compete with her style; he stated so publicly (Shocking! I was rendered speechless…).
5. She keeps her hair blond to avoid being mistaken for Amy Winehouse. As if…
6. She donned a metal leotard reminiscent of something seen in George Michael’s 1992 “Too Funky” video, to the delight of George Michael fans and ’80s kids (including me!).
7. She keeps the memory of Jim Henson’s creations alive by putting on fantastical pieces by Jean-Charles de Castelbajacs
8. She single-handedly made hair bows (a bow fashioned out of one’s own hair) cool and avant-garde. You know you want to rock that look to the next big party…
9. She is the music maker; she is the dreamer of the dreams. Oh, wait*no*that’s Willy Wonka; but doesn’t it suit her so very well?
10. She is the woman to thank for the pants-less trend, which she began so that her grandmother could identify her on TV. It’s likely gentlemen around the world will want to thank her…
Lady Gaga has a sense of humor about life, fashion and herself. She is well on her way to becoming the hybrid style/music icon, following in the footsteps of Madonna and Gwen Stefani. I, for one, can’t wait for her next move, whether in music or fashion; she is a rising star to watch. Her upcoming tour, with co-headliner Kanye West, will undoubtedly reveal her fabulousness to the masses who aren’t yet sure or still don’t quite get it. You better recognize…

i don’t even know who this gaga woman is but this is the best thing i’ve read this week and this soulful description has me craving more.
WOW!!! thanks for the comment. i think you just made my week!!!
I still do not understand Lady Ga Ga. Fischerspooner while fantastically fashionable at least made interesting* music. Lady Ga Ga’s music sounds generic, often irritating. I must be getting old and I don’t like it. Or maybe the music industry has pulled another fast one on all of us.
*used very loosely.
