Fashion: Cult Status

Welcome to the Jungle

Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, “formerly New Zealand’s fourth-most-popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo” Flight of the Conchords, may not be debuting any more hilarious episodes on HBO, but their legacy is living on—and it isn’t necessarily through their music or dry humor. Bret’s printed animal T-shirts and sweatshirts, a staple of the comedian’s wardrobe throughout the series, have made their way to the fashion world—and I’m not talking about anything sold in wildlife reserve souvenir shops. Stella McCartney seems to have taken a fashion cue from one half of the New Zealand folk duo, debuting slightly more feminine versions of his infamous animal print tees for fall; her Leopard Intarsia Sweater Dress and Leopard Face Leora T-shirt incorporate large, lifelike animal prints. These ‘80s throwbacks are perfect complements to this season’s Balmain-style blazers, and can be paired with anything from leather leggings to sexy bare legs and sky-high booties. As for men who want to work this trend? Rag-O-Rama in St. Louis are great places to peep around for vintage animal print T-shirts reminiscent of your favorite Flight of the Conchord styles.

Reminds me of the condor-print wool knit sweater my sister got me. Warm and now, apparently stylish, if a bit scratchy. No idea where she found it though. I’ll try to find out and get back to you and the ppls.

  2. Thanks, that would be great! It’s funny how some trends come and go but best when they’re practical AND sexy.
