Fashion: Cult Status

Pretty in Punk

The self-proclaimed “kitschy“, “punky“, “futuristic” designs of up-and-coming New York designer, Cody Ross truly live up to his Fall 2008 collection. Before giving you the scoop on his latest collection, I have obliged myself to present you his quick bio, which is just as interesting as his clothing:

“Having a BS from the London School of Economics and credentials in Pattern, Construction and Design from London’s Central St. Martin’s, this Dallas native is no amateur designer with a pair of thrift store scissors. Living in Asia while pursuing a career as a financial analyst, Ross found inspiration for launching his own fashion line in the States. He launched Priestess NYC in late 2007 and now boasts a celebrity clientele that could match that of any long-established designer.”

He may hail form Texas, but Ross’s style is a far cry from big, tacky and predictable. His take on the classic bubble dress mixes modern, clean lines with subtle femininity. The dress’s pale pink hue doesn’t look overplayed, or like something you would see in a 1980s John Hughes flick. By placing slits in all the right places and accentuating the shoulder line, Ross has created easy-to-wear designs that are edgy, but not intimidating. Ross does pay a small homage to the ‘80s, however, with his metallic crocodile print mini-dress—but I promise you there is nothing passé about it. Check it out for yourself at priestessnyc.com. You won’t be disappointed.
