Returning to Saint Louis Fashion Week, this time as Assistant Hair & Makeup Director, Stephanie Stordahl-Wynn—founder of True Magic Make-Up Artistry—worked her magic this March on everything from developing hair and makeup concepts to carrying out the designers‘ wishes for the runway. Recently, Stephanie sat down to give me the goods on everything from her upcoming projects to her favorite beauty products to how to get that summer glow every girl’s wanting this time of year.
Q: How did you become interested in makeup artistry and styling?
A: I have been into art since I was a kid. I went to college at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where I received a Fine Arts Degree, but couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do. I decided to get my cosmetology license and a theatrical makeup design certificate and just ran with it.
What drew you to working with Saint Louis Fashion Week?
A: I worked with Saint Louis Fashion Week last fall as the lead artist for the urban lines. I enjoyed the atmosphere as a whole and knew that I wanted to do it again the following season. I love working with the team; there is not one person on the entire Saint Louis Fashion Week team I wouldn’t want to work with. It’s a lot like a family.
Q: What makeup products do you swear by?
A: I swear by MAC’s paints for the eyes. They keep your eye makeup on all day, keep your eye shadows true to their shades and neutralize the eyelid—all in one tube. I also love Fresh’s Super Nova mascara.
Q: What spring makeup trend do you love right now?
A: I really like the pale, metallic lip.
Q: What is one thing that women can easily do to switch up their standard makeup routine?
A: Use a bronzer to add an easy, subtle glow. You’ll be amazed by how many people ask about your tan.
Q: Which celebrities would you like to work with?
A: I work a lot in the hip-hop industry, so I would probably have to say—in the same industry—Ciara or Pink. They are both very edgy and both try many different looks.
Q: What projects are you working on right now?
A:I am currently working on my own body paint project, which I’m very excited for. I am also working on my own show, which will be on September 5th, 2009. It’s going to be a hot show with extreme hair, makeup, body paint and more—definitely unique and very edgy.
Q: Sounds great! Anything else in the works?
A:I am launching my own sister company for models. Basically, it’s a modeling agency, with the perk of being teamed with TrueMagic. The name of it is MyxedBerryz. I am very excited about that, as well.
