LUXIRARE Lust

Ji Kim, the best fashion blogger to come out of Zimbabwe since, well, ever, has the go-to site if you have an appetite for fine cuisine and an affinity for killer clothes. Luxirare.com, the David to Kim’s Michelangelo, is the only website I’ve found that offers both futuristic fashions—which could rival that of Lady Gaga in even her most inspired state—and cuisine that looks as scrumptious as it is creative.

But Luxirare’s clothing creations are not mass-produced, store-bought obsessions that can be purchased by everyone from your kid sister to your Starbuck’s barista; no, Luxirare’s clothing designs are one-of-a-kind. That’s right, Kim hand-makes all of her pieces with the help of her sewing kit and imagination. The Michael Jackson tribute glove? Handmade. The see-through black top with tubing across the chest and matching skirt? Handmade.

I would call Kim a true artist in every aspect of her design, from sketchpad to final product. The fashion and food photography is simple and up-close-and-personal, while clean and almost sterile in its aesthetics. Kim captures movement and light in her photos, while ensuring that readers are paying attention to the quality of her subject—be it a lollipop pie or a hand-sewn, ruffled body sweater.

I don’t think I have ever seen anything quite like her pyramid pistachio cake, which is literally in the shape of a 3D pyramid and donning a still shot from the 1971 cult classic Vampyros Lesbos. If you want to see a sexy, crazy-cool site, logon to luxirare.com. I guaranteed no other site will make you as hungry or as inspired to wear sequined bell bottoms.

If you’re lucky, you may also be able to catch Kim’s designs on eBay. Look for luxirarewebzine for clothes that are sure to get noticed.

This is a wonderful post. Also, Vampyros Lesbos is the shit. Required drug-addled viewing, at least for a few minutes…

  2. Why thank you, Carl. I’ll keep your advice in mind but I don’t think it will be necessary considering the movie does a pretty good job itself at inducing such a state.

Out of Zimbabwe? Is it a figure of speech? I thought she was Chinese-American?
